On August 06, 2024 Ukrainian Institute for Plant Variety Examination (UIPVE) has received the automatic seed counters under Japanese Grant Assistance “The Programme for Emergency Recovery” from the Government of Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The seed counting is on of the technological processes which is used for seed germination power and energy test and 1000 seeds weight determination. The indicator of 1000 seeds weight plays an important role for a sowing rate calculation during the technical examination for VCU (Value for Cultivation and Use).

A seed germination power and energy test is considered as both the plant variety characteristic itself and one of the factors for necessity determination of replacing of an official seed sample which is provided with the application of new plant variety for long-time store. It is very important to keep the seed germination ability for using this sample for purposes described in national law.

This seed counter is characterized with the high sensitivity and reliable working which allows to count seeds of different size. It is friendly-used and has compact overall dimensions. The feature of automatic seed counting makes possible to replace difficult and monotonous hand work, safes time and ensure a precise result.

The received automatic seed counters will be utilized for plant variety study in laboratories of UIPVE in the head office and in the affiliates.
