On June 06, 2024 the Laboratory of Molecular Genetic Analysis of the Ukrainian Institute for Plant Variety Examination (UIPVE) received the Real-Time Quantitative Thermal Cycler (with the set of reagents and plastics) under Japanese Grant Assistance “The Programme for Emergency Recovery”.

On June 11, 2024 the equipment has been installed by the service engineer of the company which represents the manufacturer in Ukraine. The install training was held for scientific workers of the Laboratory of Molecular Genetic Analysis of UIPVE.

The Real-Time Quantitative Thermal Cycler is an obligatory equipment for Polymerase chain reaction (PCR). It allows to identify DNA loci in real time. PCR is used for new verities studies with the aim of genes identification which code the agronomical characteristics within DUS (Distinctness, Uniformity and stability) and VCU (Value for Use for Cultivation) tests, to determine a distinctness between varieties, which are similar on morphological traits.

The received Real-Time Quantitative Thermal Cycler and the set of reagents and plastics will be used in UIPVE for new varieties studies with DNA markers with the aim of the type of maize Cytoplasmic Male Sterility (CMS) identification, the determination of distinctness between sunflower, maize, soybean, wheat, rapeseed and potato varieties.

The equipment is also necessary for varieties identification within seed certification in case the molecular methods are used for post-control which is carried on in UIPVE.

The Ukrainian Institute for Plant Variety Examination express its gratitude to people of Japan and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for provided assistance and support of the state plant varieties testing in Ukraine.

The implementation of the project is possible with support of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
