On June 24, 2024 the Laboratory of Molecular Genetic Analysis of the Ukrainian Institute for Plant Variety Examination (UIPVE) received the Gel Documentation System with High Sensitivity CMOS Camera under Japanese Grant Assistance “The Programme for Emergency Recovery”.

The Gel Documentation System is utilized for pictures capturing of molecular electrophoretic resolution (DNA, isoenzymes, polypeptides etc.). Around 800 samples of seed are analyzed in the Laboratory of Molecular Genetic Analysis of UIPVE annually. These analyses include electrophoresis of storage proteins and DNA analysis for hybrid formula checking, variety purity determination and variety identification.

The presence of the modern system of pictures capturing and proceeding with the high sensitivity camera which can be used with different types of dye (UV, Blue, Red and White light) replace several outdated machines and allows to study plant genotypes by molecular analysis.

The received Gel Documentation System will be used in UIPVE for varieties studies with storage proteins and DNA markers with the aim of the determination of distinctness and variety identification.

The Ukrainian Institute for Plant Variety Examination express its gratitude to people of Japan and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for provided assistance and support of the state plant varieties testing in Ukraine.
