Within the framework of the Fifty-eighth ordinary session of the Council of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV), the Ukrainian delegation led by the Director of the Ukrainian Institute for Plant Varieties Examination (UIPVE), deputy representative of Ukraine in the UPOV Council – Serhii Melnyk held a meeting with representatives of UPOV Ms. Yolanda Huerta – Vice Secretary-General and Mr. Leontino Taveira – Director of Global Development and Technical Affairs.
The development of future cooperation between the UIPVE and UPOV on joint work on the Test Guidelines for determining the distinctiveness, uniformity and stability of finger millet, the use and exchange of information using databases and the use of digital solutions in the plant variety rights protection system were discussed. (Geneva, Switzerland).
In the first half of 2024, 18 UIPVE employees took part in UPOV events.

The 55th session of the Technical Working Party for Fruit Crops was held in Geneva (Switzerland), organized by the UPOV Bureau in online format.

The 53th session of the Technical Working Party for Agricultural Croups was held in Geneva (Switzerland), organized by the UPOV Bureau in online format.
During the session, a discussion of project test guidelines was held, including a full review for Cannabis sativa L., Zoysia Willd, Beta vulgaris L., Agrostis canina L., Agrostis gigantea Roth, Agrostis stolonifera L., Agrostis capillaris L., Saccharum L., ×Festulolium Asch. et Graebn., Amaranthus L., Vigna radiata (L.) R. Wilczek and partial review for Zea mays L. (partial review: characteristics 24.1 and 24.2; added new characteristics: tassel: sterility of male flowers; secondary color of grain; add characteristics to the technical questionnaire.

Nyman ex A.W. Hill and partial review for: Asparagus officinalis L. (characteristic 16 «Type of flowering»); Cucumis sativus L. Representatives of the UIPVE took part in the first session of the Technical Working Party «Testing Methods and Techniques», organized by UPOV in an online format. During the meeting, in accordance with the agenda, the report of the Office on UPOV activities was heard, the developments of UPOV member countries regarding the use of molecular markers during the examination at the VCU, technologies for storage and processing of molecular data, approaches to image analysis in the VCU examination, modern software developments were presented. provision and web-applications used in the VCU examination, development of molecular marker panels for use as additional methods of analysis during the VCU examination.

The 42nd session of the Technical Working Party for Agricultural Crops UPOV was held in Ukraine (Kyiv), which was attended by 58 foreign participants from 30 countries of the world (UPOV member countries). During the visit, the participants had a technical visit to the Mankivka State variety testing station and to the M. M. Hryshko National Botanical Garden, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
